Trainer's Absence in Australia
(From Onr
PALMERSTON N._, Last Night. The judicial committee Of- the Feilding Jockey Club was oecupied for some time at the second day of the Feilding meeting yesterday in dealing with an - unusual case involving consideration of the disqualification of a horse. it appeared that the trainer of the particular horse is absent in Australia with several horses and his charges in Kew Zealand were left in .the hands of one of his employees who is not a licensed trainer. The rules of racing provide that such is permissable and the point was whether a race meeting in Australia could be considered as coming within the provision of the xules of the New Zealand Racing Conference. The stipendiary steward (Mr. B. N. Sandilands) held the view that the words "race meeting" in the particular rule had reference to a race meeting under the jurisdiction of the Racing Conference and not one in Austr&iia, and ' thcrefore the case re ported upon was irregular. - After lengthy consideration of the circumstances " the judicial committee decided that the particular horse was eligible to run in the race, the committee being satisfied that the words "any race meeting" wero open to a broad interpretation. It is anticipated that ihe particular rule will come up for revision to make the position more dfeflnite.
