The British Government has instructed the commander-in-chief of the Mediterranean Fleet to demand an explanation from Admiral Moreno, chief insurgent naval officer at Palma, of broadcasts from Cadiz and Salamanca announcing that the insurgents . wero mstituting a blockade of the Spanish Government coast and would attack any shipping entering Government ports. Admiral Mbreno is bejng inform ed that Britain jioes not recognise General Franco's rights of blockade since belligerent rights have not been granted; nor can there be any question ef. attack even in territorial waters. In addition ; the Foreign Offiee, which acted immediately when it picked up the broadcasts, advised all British shipping that it could. expect normal protection.* A Marseilles message states that the French freighter Le Zardrieux radioed that she was attacked by a plane 15 miles from Cape Crueus, but was nok hit.
