Auckland District QUESTION IN THE HOUSE
(By Telegraph-
WELLINGTON, Last Night. When the House of Eepresentatives met at 2.30 p.m., Mr. W. J. Broadfoot asked -the Minister of Industries and Commerce the following urgent question: Is .the Minister aware that the oil companies - increased the price of petrol by one penny per gallon in the Auckland district overnight on November 26 and without prior notification? Is it still competent for oil companies to increase prices, and if it is, when does the Minister propose to give universal application to the Government's policy of price fixation for the distribution and resale of petrol? Mr. Broadfoot added that prices had not varied in the areas made subject to price fixation, but there had been earlier examples of increased prices charged in areas not under the Department of Industries and Commerce. Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in reply, stated he was aware of the increase in Auckland. The companies were entitled to increase their prices in uncontrolled areas; in fact, the prices had been increased by one penny per gallon- in those areas. The companies had also asked, in view of increased charges, if the prices could be increased by jone penny per gallon in controlied areas, and thi3 request was at present being considered by the Government.
