Prize-giving at St. James's, Otane

OTANE, Last Night. A very happy time was spent when the annuaL prize-giving functioh of St. James's Sunday school was held in the school-room. There was a good attendance of parents, friends and pupils, and the time pagsed quickly with games, competitions and iteins by the children, Mrs Gollins playing the aecompaniments. Winners of competitions, which provided lots of amusement, were Joy Clark, Phil Mill, Jack Pilcher, Mrs Bull and Mrs Spargo. A very pleasant interlude "was the presentation of bouquets to the Sunday School teachers, Misses L. Clark aud A. Mason, Miss Howard (mail bag) and to Mrs Hall. Miss Mason, who is to be xnarried shortly, was presented with gifts from the choir members, parents aud pupils. The Eey. Mr Hall, who made the presentation, spoke of Miss Mason 's faithful service ay a teacher, member of the choir, church member and also as secretary of the Sunday School, and how much Bhe would be missed from her accustomed place in church and Sunday School. In asking her acceptance of a clock and. soine pieces of china ware, he wished her every happiness in the future. Miss Mason feelingly replied, thanking those present for their kind wishes and gifts, and expressing the happiness she had derived, espeeially from thb Sunday School work. The following received prizes or reward cards. Mrs G. Clark, the oldast parishioner who recently celehjated her 92nd birthday, presented t]^ prizes, and. it was a quite unexpejjed jOy to many to see her present aud to note her kindly interest in the children: — Junior division: Margarita Clark 1, Pam Voyce. 2, Arthur Foulds and Gordon Collins (equal) 3, Josalyn Loughnan, Maureen Anderton, Gracie Mills. Intermediate:- Mary Foulds 1, Betty Foulds 2, Shirley Pilcher 3, Thelma Baghurst, Anne Loughnan, Daphne Anderton, Peter Yoyce, Betty Pilcher. Senior division: Noel Collins and Francie Pilcher (equal) 1, Douglas Clark 2, Franlc White, Hugh White, Eosa Mills (equal) 3.
