MEETING OF KINDERGARTEN MOTHERS' CLUB MEMBERS
The flnal meeting for the year of the Hastings Kindergarten Club "was held recently. It has been the custom. for some of the mothers of the fifty children attending the kindergarten to meet twice a month for a happy and worthwhile afternoon while the children play under the care of Miss D. Johnson and Miss H. Linyard, the assiStant directors. Just at present the thoughts of Christmas gaities and duties are in the minds of the club members and at the meeting an appropriate talk was given ' the subject being ' 'Child and Christmas." Mrs Eonald Miles, the speaker, told what the experience of Christmas could mean to the child and what h'e could gain from this experience. The faculty of imagination so alive in the child was of vital importance in his future life and here, Father Christmas had his part to play Mrs Miles said that children loved the story of the baby, the special Baby Jesus, and could understand something of the spirit of joy filling this season of the year, the joy that Christ was born. The gifts, our expression of this j~y, brought gladness to the little ones who could be lead to show gratitude to those who gave Santa Claus the presents to bring to them. Children, too, could know the pleasure in giving through making or selecting gifts for others and wrapping them in mysterious parcels. Mrs Miles closed by saying that , Christmas should be filled with joy ana the spirit of giving. Miss Ella Scotter spoke of Christmas in the kindergarten where the little ones enjoyed the stories, songs and pictures of the season. The thoughts of the children centred round thc presents they were making for their mothers. Mrs H. Apperly expressed the thanks of those present to Mrs Miles for her fine address. Songs by Mrs Legyet, Christmas poems and records of carols contributed to the happiness of the afternoon which closed after the usual time of lively discussion and friendly chat over afternoon tea. During the term many interesting afternoons have been enjoyed at the Mothers' Club. Mne addresses have been given. by Mrs H. Odell upon " Work in the East London Slums" and by Mrs A. McBeath upon "Health for Women." A bring and buy stall at a social afternoon this month added to club funds. ^Delightful songs by Mrs C. B. Spinney and a tallc by Mrs J. Wilson also gave pleasure at this metting. It was announced that arrangements had been made for the Christmas party and breakup on December 16 at 2.30 p.m. when all interested in the kindergarten would be most welcome.
