AUCELAND, Nov. 27. The Takapuna Jockey Olub's spring meeting opened at Ellerslie to-day in beautiful weather. There was a largo attendance, the track was in excellent order and the totalisator handled £43,957, as compared with £31,351 last year. Time, 2^. It was a wonderfully exciting race, the field being together for practically the whole distance, although Shy was left. From a fine start, Dark Shadow led all the way and in a good finish just won by a nose from Knight of Australia, who came very fast on the rails. It was one of the best races of the day. Peter Beckford and Galilee started smartly and they led at the turn. The field moved brilliantly down the straight and Tray Bit showed a strong finish to get up well, defeating Peter Beckford by a nose. Galilee, a strong favourite, disappointed, being well back at the post.
