Swimming Urged for Young and Old MR. A. I. RAINBOW^ VIEW ' ' Swimming is one of the few really amateur sports, and it is onfe that can. be indulged in by young and old. More than that, it a sport that should be indulged ih by evferybody," said Mr A. I. Rainbow, president of the Heretaunga Swimming Life-Saving Club, when officialiy opening the 1937-38 season. last bvening. Mr Rainbow expressed the hope that the coming season would be as sUCCessful, more so in fact, than last year. As far as the competitors Were conceriied, this was assured, but it should be realised that the club relied considerably*'upon tho support that svas accordcd it by the people of tho town and district. The membership was open to everyone and he felt sure that the same Support as given in the past would COntinue duting the coming season. Referring to the " Learn-to-Swim Week" which was to bfe held throughout New Zealand commencing from Deeember 13 next, Mr Rainbow eraphaalsed that the f&cilities of the club were available to everybodyj and the club would work hard to make the campaign a great success, He pointed oUt that the special week was not merely for children, but also for adults, and it was intended that special arrangemcnts tehould be made for the teaching of the adults separately frbm the children, and at hours that WoUld be more convenient to adults. Anyone desiring to learn to swim need only to hand in his or her name to the secretary, he said, and arrangements would be made for the tuition. "It is.a very essential thing that everyone should be able to swim and I appeal to those of you who cannot to avail youriselves of this opportunity, " he concluded
