Alteration at Auckland BILL BEFORE THE HOUSE

WELL1NGTUN, This Day. In moving the committal " in the Hquse of Kepresentatives to-day of the Auckland Electric Power lioard Ajuendment Bill, the inain provision oi which is.to extend the mumcipal irancliise to the board's elections, the At~ torney-General, the Hon. H. U, it. Mason, said that the Auckland Power Board's .franchise was diifereut from that of the remainder of the . boards throughout the Dominion. it "was antiquated and beionged to the tirnea of the past. The Leader 'of the Opposxtion, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, said -he thooght that the provision would tend to give the Auckland City Couneil aimost overrxding power , over outsjde smaller authorities. Nothing had been said to show that there was any necessxty for the clxange. Mr. J. A. Lee (Govt., Grey Lynn) said that the small domestic consumer got a rawer deal thaxx the larger consumer in Auckland, and, he thought, paid a higher rate for his electricity than in Wellington or Christchurch. The large consumer, however, was weil catered for. The Bill entered the committee stages just before the adjournment at *1 p^m.
