JOURNALISTS' UNION MAKES PROTEST
Advice has been received by the Hawke's Bay branch of the Wellington Journalists' Union that representations were made to; the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. j. Savage, protesting, on behalf of the New Zealand Journalists' Association, against certain of the Clauses in the proposed Anonymoue Publications Bill, which require 'that political artieles should bear a signature. The Prime Minister, it is reported, listened to the representations but gave no indication that the Government would change- its intention to proceed with- the BilL - . . The result of this deputation's visit . to the Prime Minister was reported upon at the last executive meeting of the union, and the following resolution is to be forwarded to the Minister:— "The executive of the Wellington Journalists' Union decided to enter an emphatic protest against the provisions of the proposed Iegislation, which wtlf insist on the signing of matter of R poltical nature written for their empioyers by members of the New Zealand Journalists' Association, on tha grounds that the Bill would shift the - responsibility from where it properiy lies and place it on the individual employees." (A protest by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce is reported on page 7.)
