FEILDING MEETING
Spe'cial to Herald-Tribuno.
Racing Promises To Be Interesting. REVIEW OF FIELDS
■WELLINGTON", This Day. The decision of the Feilding J-ockey Club to spread its spring meeting over f6ur days to take advantage of a banh holiday of very doubtful valuo, is probably responsible for the inanner in which. the liclds have thinned dowu. ■the club received splendid nominationa but the acceptances were disappointing, three of the eight raceS only contaln- , ing double-iigured ilelds. Nevertheless, the opening day to-morrow promises good sport as the form may prove oi value for the Manawatu and Auckland meetings. Three Auckland Cup and two Auckland Bailway Handicap candidates are engaged to-morrow. Taitoru, Hazoor and The Buzzer form an interesting trio in the Manchester Handicap. Taitoru has a gopd weight with 9.6, but he had 9.10 when runumg socond to Cerne Abbas over 10 furlongs at Wanganui, and on that day 110 gavo the Ncw Zealand Cup winner 2st. 41bs. He failed subsequently at Auckland, but the class is easier here. Hazoor was * unequal to classie company in the Canter.bury Cup, but he is quite at Lorne in provincial compauy, and althougii he is not so good as formerly he has his (ihance to-morrow. The Buzzor should improve with the outing he had at Ldvin where he attempted to make the pace for the .final five furlongs and ultimately had to cave in to the challenge of the lightweights .The Buzzer was not knocltdd about when his rider realised that he was beaten and a much more solid effort can be conlidently anticipated before long., Tiger Gain woa this race last year and if he reproduces the race he ran in the Watkins Handicap at Trentham he can be given a chance. Brazeh King is a young stayer of promise whose race among the sprinters at Eangitikei may have sharpened hira up sufiiciently to run a good race tCmorrow. He defeated some good horses in the hack class last season, and it is in his fayour that he -fVill be raciug on his home course. Corroboree is ths best of the lightweights, but his wmnmg performunce over the hacks at Kangitikei was too narrow to be im' pressive. His stableniate, Quadroon, may possibly account for him, hhe consistent Lady Ina, even witn 9.0 to carry may not iind the task .00yond her against the moderate com- . pany engageu ih the Flying Handicap, , A second to Laughing Lass at Treni tham and a win at Hangitikei are ? sound recommendations. The drop in ) class from Trentham may suit Clessir i mor, and Mata Hari, with a win as re- ^ cently.as Poverty Bay, is another foiiu I possibility. Omarere would surprise 11 1 ne succeeded, but Airing has a chance f if started here in preferenco to the Kiwitea Handicap. JDeficit has shown no form since he wOn the Wanganui ) Guineas. Wiidiiower looked as thougil , she needed the race she had at Levin, » and ltelatiVe, although just out 0 1 I maiden class, proved herseif a gafn*: » little sticker in both her races at f Trentham. ' Journet is better class than the hurf diers opposed to him in the Waituhu r Hurdlefi, and Even Money may be the , best of the others. She had the huidle . race at Levin won when she i'eil at | the last f'ence, > Am&tory, Aria; Whistle' Pinldo and Eed Cat appear to be the pick of a I poor maiden field, and Minga stands > out on form in the fiursery race. j The hack sprint and disttince races ' look like being the best events of the day. Race Call, Elofence Mills, Captain 1 Troville, Tidewaiter and Great Hope ^ are the form horses in ihe shorter race, « and Ngatirahjri^ Middle, Ned Cuttia I and Galteemore should run well in the ) longer race. ■ . r Keipar has the best form of the Ei* ' Witea Handicap feld, and Lady Kyrii ' aiid Airing are other possibilities. Uno j Whetu wiil be having his lirst race u£ ' the season, and Lone Raider and Ga.t „ Boy will have to do better than they ) did at Feilding. The latter is one who ) may improve. - p The following horses will bo well t Supported: — j WAITUNA HtJEDLES.— joUrnot, t Even Money. The liurdler Begorrah, who is going exceptionallv well, will be takeii through for the second day, as also will another Hawke's' Bay-ti'altied hor-ie, Limbohin, which is engaged in the St, Andrew's Handicap on Ttiesday. The followilig horses may be well supported in their engagements to-mor-row: — WAITUNA HURDLES.— Journet, Kound Seore, Laequer. AORANGI TRIAL PLATE. — Amv tory, Red Cat, Havatia Prixicess.
