Reconsideration Urged INCREASE IN COSTS
(By Telegraph-
GISBORNE, Last. Night. A decision to ask the Government to rcconsider ihe price fixed under the guaranteed price scheme, espeeially. in view of the increased costs and the need for compensatioii, was reaclied at a Dairy. Board ward conference in Gisoorne yesterday. , A recent statement by the, Prime Minister that the price was alterable made it; possible, it was contended, to re-open the subject, lt was explained by the chairman of the Board, Mr A. J. Murdoch, that the present legislation provided tliat any profits made in tlie disposal of butter and cheese would go -into the Marketing Department 's accounts, to - meet any spossible deficieney in the future. Recently tHe Prime Minister had stated that there was nothing to prevent a re-adjustment . of the guaranteed price. On the other hand, the Minister of Finance and Marketing, Hon. W. Nasli, had declared the price to be lixel t'or one year. Urging that the matter should be fsopened, Mr M. Doyle, chairman of the Kia Ora Dairy Gompanv, agreed that reasonable insurance against future heavy losses was desirable. It would not do to create too large a fund, how* ever, otherwise there was a possibilitv of it leading to trouble at the forfcheoming elections. It was considered by Mr E. R. Renner, chairman of the Okitu Dairy Company, that the farmers should support I tho compensated price campaigu.
