WAR RELIEF EXECUTIVE
Rate of Interest to Soldiers Reduced A meeting of the executive of the Hawke's Bay War Relief Association, was held in Napier last evening. The chairman, Mr J. N. Barrie (Waipukurau), presided over Messrs C. H. Critehly (Waipawa), L. J. Mackersey (Has. tings)> T. H. Ringland (Napier) and E. F. Stubbs (Takapau). Leave of absence was granted tq Mr W. H. F., Frame (Dannevirke), Before proceeding with the business the chairman made reference to the death of Mr A. Mackie, who had been a member of tbe Dannevirke .branch . committee since its inception. A motion that a vote of condolence be forwarded to the relatives, was carried in the usual manner. A letter from the Hastings branch, advising that it had been decided to make Mr Hart a life member of thto committee, was placed before the meeting, and it was decided to place on record Mr Hart's wonderful service to the association since its inception. Letters were received from the olght branches of the association, forwarding recommendations re rate of interest charged on loans to soldiers, and at'ier careful consideration it was decided that the rate of interest be reduced. A further. 19 cases reporting on pension matters which had been dealt with since last meeting were received with thanks, and the executive congratuiated 'the seeretaries for their continued interest in this phase of the association 's work. Although economic conditions of today have improved, it was decided thnt the matter be left with the branch committee to grant assistance as in previous years, and that the Waipukurau .branch be authorised to make tbe usual grant to soldiers in Pukeora Banfc» torium. Before closing the meeting, the chairman remarked that as this would be the last executive meeting of the year, he would take the opportunity of wishing members the complimenta of the season, and to thank them for the manner in which they had co-oper-ated with him in carrying on the Work of the association. Mr Critchley, on behalf of the members, keartily recipocated the good wishes. Assistance Granted. It was reported that since the last meeting assistance amounting to £1144 11/3 had been granted as foliows: — Grants to soldiers and dependants: Dannevirke branch, 74 soldiers, £120 17/11, 11 dependants £26 3/1, Hastings, 91 soldiers £177 13/-, 5 dependants £11 .2/6. Takapau, 7 soldiers, £1 12/6. Waipawa, 7 soldiers, £4 0/1. Waipukurau, 6 soldiers, £46 7/3, 3 dependants, £14 5/-. Wairoa, 17 soldiers £41 8/7. Woodville, 12 soldiers £3 15/9. Napier, 76 soldiers £1*20 7/2, 4 dependants £13 12/6. Payments on account of Napier Soldiers' Club Trust Account: Napier branchy 4 soldiers £26 0/6. Loans to soldiers: Dannevirke bramli 1 soldier £15. Hastings branch, 17 soidiers, £104 9/7. ^Napier branch, 22 soldiers, £271 7/3.
