HASTINGS GYM. CLUB
Smoke Concert Ends The Season TWO YEARS OF PROGRESS There was an exceptionally big and representative assemblage at the Premier hall last evening when the Hastings and -Diistrict r Gymnastie Club conducted its "wind-up" night of the season. Proeeedings took the form of a smoke concert an.d a most enjoyable evening was spent, Mr H* G. Apperley presi-ded. "The club has done wonderful work during its two years of existence and is wortliy of all the support that- can be given it," said Mr T. King when proposing the toast of 4 ' The Club." The speaker referred to the faet that the Government was cnneerning itself with the physical development of the young people and this was j-ust what the club, kindred bodies through the country, and sports organisations were doing. 4 4 This club offers wonderful facilities and has great possibilities and I hope that it will reeeive in the future the support and encouragement ' that it richly deserves," he added. Eeplying, Mr J. McDonald, a foundation member, said that the club had had a liard struggle, though it had been generously assisted by the business people of the town in the way of donations and practical assistance. It was pleasing to note that. after two seasons' aetivities, the club could still boast of having all its foundation members actively interested. Other toasts honoured were as follow: "The King," by the chairman; "Aeti-ve Members," by Mr J- Stewart, and replied to by Mr A. Skudder; 4 4 The Committee," by Mr W. During the past season the tutors put through about 50 pupils, said Mr Apperley, while the committee arranged seven gym. nights. This was a very fine performance, and, ccfasidering the low subscription f ees paid by the pupils, it was pleasing to note that the revenue for the seasoxi gave the club a surplus on the year's workings.
