HAMILTON, This Day. Thomas Chaplin, aged 46, found guilty yesterday on a charge of common assault at Rotorua, was senteneed to siy. months hard labour in the Suprem? Court at Hamilton this morning by Mr Justice Callan. Rodney Devereaux Makgill, aged 35, pleaded guilty to theft while a servant of the Government at Paeroa, was admitted to two yeaTS' probation. The prisoner stole cattle valued at £35 qvcr a year ago, His Honoui taking iuto. consideration the fact that 'the prisoner had a cloan record since ffie sentence. Two years' hard labour was tho sentence imposed on William MeKfnzie, aged 47, who pleaded guilty to two eharges of indecent assault afc Putaruru. ° Jobn 3 ames McCarthy, aged 17, was senteneed in the Supreroe Court to two years' Eorstal treatment on eight eharges oi' breaking and eutering housch by night and by day, a.nd one charge of theft from ad welling. The gocds stolen wero valued at £100.
