Hawke's Bay-Gisborne Branch At the annual meeting held recentlv at Morere, of members of the Hawke 's Bay-Gisborne branch - of the New • Zealand Institute of Architects, the following were present: Mr R. Natusch, Napier,, chairman; "Messrs W. P. Pinch, E. Phillips, P H. Porge, J. A. L.,Hay, A. Garnett, L. .W. "Williams, C. T. Natusch, I. Mirfield,.S. G. Chaplin, H. G. Davies, and K. Frame, secretary. The annual report and talance sheet were • adopted. Pleasure was expressed By the chairman in, again meeting the Gisborne members. The success of last year's gathering showed that members appreciated the decision to conduct tbe annual meeting at Morere. Mr S. G. Chaplin, of Hastings, wa» congratulated on winning the award of merit for a house not exceeding 1500 square feet erected during the past year in the Hawke's Bay-Gisborne ar-eo. "Now that the State Advances aud Valuation Departments had been combined the amount of valuation work by registered architects had decreased considerably," eontinued the a-nnual leport. "Registered architects are now used by the Department for valuation work only when the department 's own ofiiccrs are unable to deal with the work in a reasonable time. "During the annual conference your represent.ative was approached by a number of members regarding holdinq the next conference in Napier, and general disappointment was expressed when the decision of the branch was conveyed to them. The next annual coaference of the institute will be held in Wellington' in February. It is hoped that members other than councillors will make it their duty to attend at least the annual meeting, and also attend the readings of some of the papers. Architects definitely benefit by the papers, in addition to the pleasure of meeting fellow members. "During the past year the Goverament Housing Department has been busy with the housing scheme, Wellington and Auckland architects having had a • strenuous time ' in meeting the department's Tequirements. ' ' Officers elected for the ensuing year are as fo'llow: Chairman, Mr R. Natusch; vice-chai'rman, Mr J A. L. Hay; secretary and treasurer, Mr K. Frame; committee, Mes'srs I. Mirfield, S. G. Chaplin, E. Phillips, H. G. Davies and L. W. Williams.
