Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer, of Hastings, is spending a holiday at Waitara. e Mr. Nelson 11. JToy, of the Plant Hesearch Station, Palmerston North, is on a brief visit to Hastings. Last evening the Governor-General, attended by Lieutenant Sir Standisli Roclie, Bart., A.D.C., left for Auckland. His Excellency js due to return to Wellington on Friday morning. Mr. Roger Duif, Jately of the Native Alfairs Department, and stationed in Samoa, has taken up his appointment as ethnological assistant at the Canterbury Museum. Mr. J. H. Handyside, of Masterton, president of tbe New Zealand Crain, Seed and Product Mercliants' Federation, arrived in Hastings last evening t0 attend the annual conference of tbe tederation. • Mr A. W. Croskery, who has been nominated by the Federation of Labour as workers' assessor in the second Arbitration Court, is well-kuown in the industrial labour movement. He is a native of Wales, and came to New Zealand as an infant more than 50 yeara ago. Since 1911 he has had a long experience of union secretaryships, and has also been an exeeutive member of the New Zealand Labour Party. He was twice an unsuccessful Lahour Parliamentary candidate iu Wellington. The nominee as deputy- workers' assessor, Mr G. T. Thurston, of Christehureh, is secretary of the Christchurch Engineers' Union, and was workers' delegate to the International Lahour Office conference a few years ago.
