KING COUNTRY STOCK

Improvement Noted That the quality of the stock in the King Country has improved vastly duTing tbe past three or four years is highly evident. No doubt this is chiefly due to the improvement in pastures but the fact is very apparent that better bulls and rams are now being sought by farmers with a view to improving their herds and flocks. At the recent combined breeders' sale of beef bulls held at Te Kuiti, the demand fqr best quality animals was ex« ceptionally keen, farmers being well content to pay extra money for the good quality bulls which were offered. The entry at this fixture comprised 46 two-year-old and two yearling Aberdeen Angus bulls, there being eight two-year A.A. bulls on account of Mr K. E. Fisher, of Te Mapara, 36 twoyear A.A. bulls on account of Mr L. G. Purdie, of Mahoenui, and two two-year-old and two yearling A.A. bulls on account of Mr W. W. Johnstone, of Puketutu. Mr Fisher was again successful in obtaining top price, the second year in succession, and seeing that this is only the second year since he started breeding, that he has had bulls for sale, he is to be highly congratulated. He receivde top price of 75 guineas whilst" 65 and 60 guineas were realised for other bulls and he obtained the good average of 49 guineas for his draft, which compared most favourably with averages received at other leading centres. Mr Purdie's draft sold up to 67 guineas and he received other geod prices of 66, 53 and 50 guineas, and for his whole entry of 36 bulls he obtained the great average of 4!£ guineas. Mr W. W. Johnstqne received 32 guineas and 28 guineas for his two-year old bulls, whilst for two exceptionally well grown yearlipgs he obtained the good prices of 40 guineas and 38 guineas,
