WELLINGTON, Last Night. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association to-night, Mr H. Ayres, of Christchurch, was appointed coach of the Dominion's rowing representatives for the Empire Games at Sydney in Feb'ruary. As an oarsman Mr Ayres had a long and successful career and was a New Zealand champion. His record as a coach is also notable. In that capacity he accompanied the New Zealand oarsmen in Sydney in 1925, when their unbeaten Tecord included successes in the New South Wales champion eights, champion seulls and invitation fours. Mr Ayres was also the coach of the crew which represented the Dominion at the Empire Games at Hamilton, Toronto, in 1934, and of the Oanterhury crew which won the first inter-provin-cial eight-oared championship in New Zealand.
