WAIPAWA GOLF CLUB

Our Ovra Corespondent.

Substantial Credit Balance

(From

WAIPAWA, Last Night. Tlie following is the report presented at the annual meeting of the Waipawa Golf Club: — The season, whieh was officially openedi oii April 18, 1937, proved most successful in all respects. A heavy programme of club and inter-club competitions was carried, out and finalised before the close of the season. In accordance with the resolution of Ihe last annuai meeting,' two new holes were laid out, but, owing principally to the wetness of the fairways, it was considered advisable to discontinue maintenance of these holes. The membership sliows a slight drop -in the men's section from 60 to 57, while tlie ladies' section was very seriously reduced, principally by sickness and departures from the town, the total falling from 52 to 32. The club is assured, however, of the return of many of these absentees for the comlng season. The club's funds again show a satisfactory increase, - and the balance in liand is now £104 9/11, as against £72 12/8 at the commencement of the season. The usual programme of inter-club matches was aranged, and in the main carried out. Unfortunately, wet weekends compelled tlie postponement, and subsequent cancellation or matches arranged with Parkvale, Maraenui, and Aramoana clubs. Matches played, however, were much enjoyed by the members, and y our committee is happy to hqte that matches with Marakeke were resumed during the season. The annual tournament again proved a most successful two-day event. Good weather prevailed, and a profit of £8 10/3 resulted. The annual ball was again held, a small loss resulting therefrom. The function was well attended: and much enjoyed, but a boisterous night and nnuc\ii heavysr expenditure militated against a financial success. An innovation tliis season to have closing-day on tournament lines proved most successful. The result was an increase of the club" funds by £10.8/8. Tlianks are again due the ladies for their valuable help during the season. To the donors of trophies, to all who Tendered assistance^ to tlie club, the Press, for valued publicity, your committee tenders its sincere thanks. The coming season will probably see th© club established on new links, Messrs. Kittow Bros. liavi-ng offered th© use of a large area of splendid country for this purpose. A few details jn this regard remain to be completed, and when finalised your committee will proceed in accordance with the resolution of the special meeting of September 23. The committee wishes all members \ most enjoyable 1938 season.
