HIGH SCHOOL OLD PUPILS
Airaual Report of Association t — — — iThe annual report of the Hastings High School Old Pupils' Association points out that the aecounts for the year show a deficit, due almost entirely to the lo. 3 on the annual ball. The ball, continues the report was a success soeially but not fnancially. The committee is at a loss to understand why Old Pupils do not make this funetion the outstanding reunion ball of tbe year. Tbe associaton's tbanks are again due to Mrs Hill and to tbe members of the Higb School League, who arranged the supper; and to Mr C. B. Wilkinson, for his decorations. The report goes on: The tenth annual day at the school was lield on' November 26 in conjunction with Parent's Day. The weather was ideal and those present spent an enjoyable afternoon at criclcet and tennis, inspeeting displays of work by the pupils, and generally renewing old associations. Tho Badminton and Bridge circles had most suecessful sersons. It is pleasing to note the increased attendances at bridge, and the success of Miss G. J. Jenkins, a member of the badminton eircle, in the recent Hawke's Bay championships. On the eve of her wedding and departur© from . "astings, the executive arranged a gift evening in the Eorm of a dance for Miss M. Diamond, ivho has given outstanding scrvice to the association. . . Tlie ref ectory ' table, an' outstanding work of solid carved oak, has been delivercd to the school, and we hope to formally present this, together with the chair, before tbe'end of the school year. It is pleasing to note an increase" of 16 in the membersliip, Which this*' year stands at 116, including seven pernianent •members. The accounts 'show a deficit for the year's working,- due : almost entirely -to -the loss on the "annual ball.
The Wellington. branch of. the association has bad a suecessful .year; „the annual dinner tbere was well attended and thorouglily , enjoyed. We understand tbat Old Boys in Auckland are about to follow tbe example of those in Wellington. Resulting from the motion of the last annual meeting, the association now possesses a blazer distinctive from that of -the school. We' have every reason to believe that this blazer will-prove popular with members. The thanks of tlie . association are due to the hon. seereiarxs,. Miss G.. J. Jenlrins and Mr C. B. Wilkinson,. and to the hon. treasurer, Mr ,D. Plank, for tho capable' way in which they bave carried out their duties, to tlie hon. auditor, Mr J. M. Angus, to Miss E. McMullan, Mr E. A. Murley and Mr F. O. Wilkinson, for assistanee during the year, and to tbe Press.
