COMMISSIONER'S LETTER

"KOBIN HOOD."

Dear Scouts, — Our Hawke's Bay census for the year is now complete and here are our numbers: 318 Cubs, 269 Scouts, 9 Eovers and 46 Scouters. Total 542. Last year we had slightly •more. I think the infantile paralysis epidemic was to blame for our numbers falling off, but we must not simply sit back and blame the epidemic. We must get to, work and show those who are not scouts what a fine game scouting is, so rope your mates in and show them what a lot they have been missing. Another thing I have noticed is that not nearly enough of you get your first-class. In the last four years we have only had 17 with this badge in Hawke's Bay. There are 14 troops in this district, and out of this 14 only eight have had any first-class awards since 1934. The Chief says that he does not consider a chap a real scout till he is firstclass. * There are a lot of you chaps I know could do it if you only put your minds to it, so come along, roll your sleeves up and get at it! Catholic Centenary Scout Oamp. In conjunction with the Catholic Centenary at Auckland there is to be a Catholic Scout camp from February 26 to March 6, 1938. I understand that special leave is ' being arranged from schools and that specially rcduced rail fares will be available. The eamp is limited to 300, so any Catholic Scouts desiring to go should communicate with me as soon as possible. The cost of the camp will be one pound. An Australian Visitor. Cub Master C. G. Leavy (Prover), of Brisbane, who camped next to the New Zealand contingent at Franlcston jamboree, will be touring New Zealand in December, and will be staying the night of the 14th in Napier at the Arcadia Hotel. He would like to meet old jamboree friends and other Scouts and Scouters.— Yours,
