j SYDNEY. Nov. 22. The New Zealand cricketers lost the last match of their tour when New feouth. "Walea defeated them by the comfortable margin of eight wickets. The Welshmen did not secure victory, hov.^/er, before they experienced some • "uneasy moments as the result of a fine opening attack by Cowie. A pleasing feature of the match was the way some tf the Now Zealanders handled CReilly's bowling. When the game was resumed to-day lt was nearly an hour late owiag to rain. The wickefc was not affected by it. As the foothold was uncertaia for ifche f ast bowlers, 0 'Reilly, Jackson and White continuod the attack. Hadlee ' itepped out fearlessly and smote each of these to the boundary. The total reached 200 in 182 minutes and with Tindill showing strong defence a fifty partnership for the ninth wicket was vealised after 43 minutes. Hadlee was batting very confidently when he edged one and Oldfield took his fourth catch of the innings. Hadlee batted for 75 minutes and hit seven fours. Tindill was dismissed without addition to the score and New South Wales was left with 136 runs to zaake to win. The New Zealand innings occupied 207 minutes. Cowie and Carson opened the bowling It New South Wales1 second innings and in the formef's second over he tecured the wickets of Cheetham and McCabe. As in the first innings Cowie bowled McCabe with a ball that swung In. McCabe, who is in splendid form this season, having scored several centuries in grade games, was completely be&ten by the paco and swing of the ball. With the total at 2 for 5 Cowie had 2 for 1. Fingleton and Chipperfield then became associated and securtd the necessary runs for victory. The ■ pair batted very carefully until the 50 was passed and then opened out and bcored ali round the wicket. The bowling apartfrom Cowie lacked iting. Parsloe was not bowled until ihe total was 82 and then only for one bver. * During this over there was a peculiar incident." 'Chipperfield swung vigorous\j, missed, fell on the pitch and rolled •n the* .wicket which was broken. Parsloe appealed to first one .and then the -other umpirer, . bht Hhipperfield^i tvas given.not out. The umpires appaTently ruled that the batsman had cpmpleted his stroke before breaking the wicket. Eight bowlers were given a turn, but . luns camo quicily at the end. Chipper-, leld batted for 105 minutes, his score Including eight fours, and Fingleton foi il9 minutes for five fours.
