ST. LUKE'S SCHOOL GARDEN PARTY RELD AT HAVELOCK NORTH
A pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all who attended St. Luko's School garden party on Saturday afternoon, which was held in very beautiful surroundings, Mrs. Lowry North liaving kindly lent lier garden in Havelock North for the party. Lovely old trees gave shade for several of the stalls, while others were arranged under small raarquees as large sun umbrellas. The stalls did brisk business throughout the after noon, and quickly sold their tempting goods. The stali-holders were as follow: Produce stall, Mrs. Johuson and Miss Johnson, Mrs. Heaton ; cake stall, Mrs. W. A. Wliitlock, Mrs. 1. S. Garcliner, Mrs. R. Niinon j lce cream and fruit drinks, Mi'S. Roinaine "Wright and Mrs. Toulmin ; sweet stall, tho Old Girlsj work stall, Mrs. Barron and Mrs. J. Nimon; ilower stall, Josephine Nimon, Yvonne Estaugh and Mary Higgins. During the afternoon a delightful performance was given by St. Luke's School pupils of the operfctta ' 'Dreains Come T'rue." The garden was a lovt»ly settmg for this very dainty presentatlon, and the charming and colourful frocks • worn by the little performers were most attractivo. . In tbis little operetta tbe story follows the title, and a .glimpse is outained of the land of the f airies with all the charming little people connected with this — hower fairibs, woodland fairies; elves, sprites and a host of others. Several attractive little dances, arranged by Miss Jean Bal'.antyne, were. mcluded in the performance, and also a number of songs, and these were very well sung" by the performers. The operetta was excellently pro- . duced by tbe lieadmistress of St. Luke's School, Miss D. S. Dudding, . and her assistant, Miss Faith Gardiner who played the music throughout. Both Miss Dudding and Miss Gardiner were congratulated by many members of the audience on the splendid performance. Afternoon tea was served in a marquee and was rnuch enjoyed. Those :iu , charge were Mesdames H. It. von Dadelszen, H. H. Edwards, I. L. Simson ahd K. Simson. Several competitions were helj dur- , ing tbe afternoon, the winners being as follow: Small Cbristmas cako. Mrs. , Heaton; guest towel, Mrs. H. H. Edwards; turkey, Mr. Reginald Gardiner. The competition for the large Christmas cake is to be continued until. nest Saturday.
