Methodists Disapprove of Military Manoeuvres

CHRISTGHURCH, Last Night. * A motion expressing regret at thtf holding of . -week-end military c'amps, ahd preparation to co-operate* with other . ehurches in protesting against them, was passed .by the North Canterbury Methodist Synod. Members ex-: pressed disapproval of the camps on .th* ground that they provided for military training on Sunday. . "Most camps include .& Sunday in the camp- period," said? the chairman, the Rev. Clarence Eaton. .'-'That is a very different matter from .organising week-end camps," said the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt. The Rev. H. S. Kings said* that ther* was now a definite movement fqr week-end camps. They were given tbat name, but they amounted to pro' viding an opportunity for * training on Sunday. J It was- stated that in the longer camps Sunday training was usually cut down to a minimum, and religious services were held.
