' Strathmore Arrives. AUCKLAND: With 807 passengers, 103 of whonx were leaving her in New Zealand, the P. and O. luxury liner Strathmore berthed about noon. The largest and latest of the fleet recently made her maiden voyage to Australia after two years on tho run to India. The last port of call before Auckland wats Brisbane. She leaves for Wellington at 11 p.m. to-day. The Strathmore was flying the blue ensign when she entered port in rainy weather, her commander, Captain F. E. French, and some of his officers being members of thc Eoyal Naval Eeserve. Large parties of passengers are proceeding to Eotorua and otther North Island scenic resorts by motov and will rejoin the Strathmore at Wellington. Road Safety. WELLINGTON: The latest figures for road fatalities for the 14 months which have elapsed since the new roadsafety policy commenped in September, 1936, show that there have been 345 deaths^ as compared "with 265 for the precpding four months. There has been a reduction of 30 in the number of deatlis over these periods in spite of a substantial increase in the volume of road traffie. "These facts," said the Minister of Transport, the Hon. E. Semple, in the course of a statement, ' ' provide cOnvincing proof of the effectiveness of the road-safety campaign. Most of the proposals will tako some time to beconie fully operative, but it is gratifying that good results have already been shown." ' ~
