HASTINGS ROSE SHOW
Quality and Number of Entries, is High EFFECT OF RECENT GALES Despite the fact that recent gales have damaged' many gardens, the .en^tries for the Hastings Horticultural Society 's Eose and Sweet Pea Show'today were very good, both in quality and number. The show is the first for two years, no show being held in 1936, but an impressive dispiay of bloOms was tabled in the Assembly Hall this morning in preparation for judging. The roses, in particular, suffered considerabie damage during the past few weeks from high" winds, and it was unfortunate that many fine blooms should have been damaged after their owners had worked hard to bring them to perfeetion for the show. Considering the circumstances, however^ those blooms at the show are well up to standard. The sweet pea section, although not strongly supported, • conta%s some good exhibits. One of the most interesting sections of the show is- the -dispiay table arranged by ' the Superintendent of Borough Eeserves, Mr J. G. C. Mackenzie, and his sts^. The table contains some extremely fine blooms from Cornwall Park, together with cuttings of some of the lesser-known shrubs in the reserve. In adaition, there are 75 photographs of gardens and xeserves abroad.
