PRODUCE CONFERENCE
Merchants to Meet at Hastings ClVie WELCOME BY MAYOR Hastings will be the venue next week of the annual conference of tho New Zealand Grain, Seed and ProduceMerchants' Federation, when it is anticipated that there will be between 40 and 50 visitors present from all parts of the Dominion. This will be the first occasion that the conference has been held outside Wellington, and, Christchurch, and the departure from custom was brought about by tho strong representations made by the Hawke's Bay Association two years ago for consideration to be given to the provinces. The delegates are expeeted to arrive in Hastings on Tuesday and the conference programme has been arranged to occupy the time of the visitors until Thursday night. Many of the delegates will bo accompanied by their womenfolk, and, in 'addition, several technical advisors and officers of various Government Departments will be" in attendance. Briefly the programme for the delegates is as follows: — Tuesday night — Lccture by Mr. Nelson R. Foy, Director of tho Socd- • Testing Station, Palmerston North. Wednesdiay morning — Conference in Council Chambers. Wednesdav afternoon — Motor drive round the district, to include the majotity of places of interest in the Hastings flats and afternoon-tea at Napier Thursday morning — Civic welcome by the Miayor, Mr. G. A. Maddison, at 9.15; followed by further conference business. Thursday evening — Complimentary dinner tendered to visitors by tho Hawke's Bay Association. Mr. J. H. Handyside, of Masterton, is president of the federation and will preside over the conference.
