MAURICE TATE

That Maurice Tate passes out of Sussex cricket (with £250 soiatium) at the age of 42, is in keeping with the recent English trend of retiring old players. Tate had his own outstanding periods as a Tcst bowler, notabiy in 1924-25, when he capl^red 38 wickets at 23.21 in the Austral^m series. His Test record is 83 wickets at 30.62 a wicket. Few bowlers last so long in first-class cricket as Tate did. Fewer still, on his pace.
