WAIPUKURAU., Last Night. The children 's group of the Central Hawke 's Bay branch . of the . British Music Society gave a very . enjoyable recital cf tvocal and pianoforto numbers at the social hall of the Women 's Rest, Waipukurau, on Thursday .evening. In a short talk, the group leader, Mrs Gerald Wilson^ spoke of the part played by the junior group in the cultivation of musical knowledge among the younger members of the community, pointing out the cultural benefits to be derived from membership, and soliciting the support of parents whose children were musically mclined. Membership was open to all school children, and new students were weleome. The group, which was the first to be formed by any B.M.S. in New Zealand, then presented the following programme, the young artists being warmlyapplauded; — Pianoforte solos. 'fValse" "in. A flat (Chopin) and "Allemande and Aveu" (Schumann), Nola Mathieson; Study in G Ma jor , (Uunhill), ' ' Andante Simplice" (McEwcn), Fay Ward; "Lullab y" (Brahms), Tom Johnston; "Esquisses Techniquo" (Moszkowski), Pat Parsons; vocal solos, "Musing " Yelna Hill; "The Wild Rose,'' Gwea 0 'Connor. The group sang the following folk songs: "The Farmer'a Son So Sweet,> and "The Lark in the Morn" and the unison songs, "Happiness," "Hop- ' pity," "The Wanderer's Night Song," "Wandering" (Schubert)^ "The Merry Peasant" and "Evening Hymn ; ' (Schumann). At the concluision of the programme Mrs .Y. Parsons, on behalf of parents and B.M.S. members, thanked Mrs Wilson and Miss K. Riddle, deputyleader, for the work done in the in- ' terests of the children 's musical education and congratulated them on the very high standard achieved in the limited time at their disposal. The whole evening, sHe said, had been most enjoyable. Members of the junior group present were: Shona Bell.
