Wellington Show Buildings LABOURER'S OFFENCE

WELLINGTON, Last Night. On the evening of October 1, the Wellington Winter Show buildings had a narrow escape from a serious fire, and to-day John O 'Grady, 54, a labour6r, pleaded guilty to wilfully setting them oh fire and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. It Was stated in evidence that the aecused had worked for the Show Association on relief for vafying period s, but had not been employed there for several months. Although he had applied for employment, instructions had beon given not to employ him, as he was not a suitable person. He adoptod a hostile attitude when refused work. Kennel Club members who diseovered the fire just as it was getting going gave evidence of seeing the accused and accosting him, being abused, and ehallenged to fight. The accused, it was stated, was under the influenee oi liquor.
