PALMERSTON N., Last Night. In t'he Magistrate's Court Harold Colin Drager, aged 21, labourer of Woodville, who was yesterday renianded till November 23 on a charge of wounding Artliur Hai'ris, with intent to do grievous bodily barm, made application for bail. Detective-Sergeant Meiklejohn stated that this was a case of brutal premeditated assault whieh occurred at eight o'cloclt on Monday night. The prisoner had told his parents he was going to bed, but he slipped out and called at the baek door of Harris's ihairdressing saloon in Woodville and asked for a paeket of cigarettes. When Harris was stopping to open the cashbox, he was stunned by a blow and rushed blindly at the man, Harris receiving a furtlier blow on the head. Harris managed to gain possession of a hammer, allegedly used, and reached the door, where he called for help. "This man is very fortunate that a more serious eharge has not been brought) for if the hammer had struclc a vital spot, this miglit qnite possibly have been more serious," said the de-teetive-sergeant. Oounsel suggested that accused had suffered an attack of sunstroke. Bail was allowed for £.200 with two sureties of £100 each, accused to report to tho poiiee daily.
