PARKVALE GOLF CLUB
Annual Meeting and Elsction of Officers , SUCCESSFUL , SEASON Between 50 and 60 members were present at the annual meeting of the Parkvale Golf Club, held in Hastings last evening, when Mr B. M. Kessell, chairman of the executive, presided. General satisfaction with the season's workings and activities was expressed and the meeting proved one of the most successful in the history of the club. The .annual report, wihich was adopted, stated that it was found necessary at one time during the year to close the membership list, but towards the latter end of the season, with members transferring to other centres, the position eased somewhat and the committee was able to take those who. were on the waiting list. * Owing to the inclement weather it was .not possible to play all the interclub matches bnt tfliose that were played proved most enjoyable. Despite the dry spell of weather at the commencement of the season, the course was maintained in splendid order and toward the end was at its
fjest. In this connection the club was fortunate in having as its caretaker Mr J. Divine, whose continued interest ,in the courso and the elub's welfare was appreciated by all. The committee was pleased to intimate that it had secured a tenure for five years of "Windsor Park, and further improvemcnts should now be gone on with. The ladies' branch had a particularly busy season, and one of the main features was the re-introduction of a number of interclub matches. In this connection Mrs Cafberry (captain), deserved a special word of thanks for her •interest in organising these events. Miss Eobson, as secretary to the ladies' throughout the season, and her services branch, had done valuable work weye appreciated. The thanks of the committee were extebded to Messrs A. Lean (club captain), E. Rixon (hon. secretary), C. Crichton (hon. treasurer), W. B. Hobbs (auditor), and the various sub-com-mittees; also to Mr F. H. Walker, the club's professional, for assistance throughout the season, and th© Press for reports, etc. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr S. J. Heighway; president, Mr G. A. Maddison; vicepresidents, Messrs D. Puhara and ReesDavies; club captain, Mr A. Lean; hon. secretary, Mr A. W. Simpson; hon. treasurer, Mr C. Crighton; hon. auditor, Mr W. B. Hobbs; committee, Messrs L. Eoss, B. M. Kessell, L. J. Wright, J. McPherson and E. Attwood.
A full and general discussion took place regarding the proposed rearrangement of competitions and alterations to club days. It was eventually decided that, instead of conducting fortnightly club competitions for eacth section, mcn's and ladies', next season these be conducted weekly; and further that niid-week and Saturday competitions be differentiated, with separate competitions for each section. The following officers were elected to control the affairs of the lady members:— Club eaptain, Mrs Cross; hon. secretary, Mrs Ashworth; committee, Mesdames Davidson, Hull and Le Sueur and Miss D. Carr. •
