Fat Cattle Down at Stortford Lodge FEW QUALITY PENS The market for fat cattle at Stort- " ford Lodge to-day was slightly pasier, in which unfinished female pens, which predominated the yarding, being -as much as 15/- a head dPwn. The better quality pens, which were in short- supply, made close on late saies after hard selling. Although only a short yarding wds offered, butchers declined to be at-. trS.cted by second quality pens, many of which were only in store condition and were most suited to graziers. Ox beef was confined to three or four pens of bullocks on account of Estate H. A. Speedy, Takapau, which would average 9001bs. and realised about 33/6 per lOOlbs. Prime heifers made 30/- to 31/6 per lOOlbs., with the lighter pens being down to 28/- per lOOlbs. The best cow pen brouglit 26/- per lOOlbs. and others,according to quality, were down to 20/per lOOlbs. Several pens were disposed of below the £7 mark. ' Realisations were as under: — OX BEEF RATES. "" ' A large-framed heavy Friesian bullock, carry ing quite a lot of condition, but plain in quality, brought £13. A pen of medium to heavy Aberdeen Angus and Hereford bullocks, mediumfinished,,were passed at £11. On ' account of the Estate H. A; Speedy, Takapau, four heavy dehorned Shorthorn and ; Hereford bullpcks, wellframed, solidly finished, having been in prime condition for some time, making a good entry of heavy ox beef, ranged from £14 15/- to £15 16/-. From the same source, . twp slightly lighter Hereford bullocks, in equally good order,- Sold ■ at £14 15/-. • A pen of small to mediuin-growii wellfinished Aberdeen Aiigus bullocks, ia good order, made to £11 17/6. . In -from Eaupare, a single mediumfranied heavy solidly-finished prime dehorned . Hereford bullock sold at £13 ' 10/-. HEIFER EATES, On' account of 'Craggy Eange, a pen of nicely-finished medium to heavy Aberdeen Angus-Hereford heifers, being a good summer beef entry, sold to £10 V-- : - - , - . A further entry *of prime, quality Craggy Eange cattle, in splendid order, made to the same*mohey. An extra ' prime heavy Abefrdeen Angus heifer, Tfa^ng been iattened for mpnths, being in splendid -order, topped the market at £12 10^-. . In the . same- pen a smaller-grown Aberdeen .Angus heifer, equally' wellfinished sold at £9 1Q/-. A small to mediumrgrown dehorned Hereford heifer, prime finished and showing extra" good. quality, sold at £8 15/-. On account of Clifton Station^ an entry of medium-framed Aberdeen Angus h.eif ers, well-finished and showing quality, sold to £9 5/-. On account of Colonel . Neilson, a medium-grown extra-p'rime finished Aberdeen Angus heifer iu splendid order brought £^0 5/-.
COW BEEF VALUES. In . from Craggy Eange, two wellfinished, heavy hPrned Hereford cows, in good order, ^sold at £9 5/-. - A pen of aged well-framed Aberdeen Angus cows, rather plain in' quality but . good weights,1 made £8. ' A pen 'oi small to -medium-framed rather lightly-finished cows made a" good sale at £7 6/-. Five dehorned 1 Hereford ' cows, down from Tunanui,, medium-framed, -ligKffinished, and empty after three days on the road, realised £6-7/6.-Ffve well-framed unfinished emptylooking Aberdeen Angus - cows, which would not MU out at more than 600lbs., made to £8.
