VIGE-REGAL. At Government House yesterday morning his Excellency the GovemorGeneral presented. to Sir George Troup the letters patent conferring upon him the honour of a Knight Bachelor. Miss D. M. Arthur, principal of the Napier Girls' High School, has resumed her duties after being absent on sick ieave. Canon Percival James, formerly of bt. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, has been appomted a canon of Wakefield Cathedral and rural dean of Halifax, England. Mr and Mrs W. Brinsley, Hastings, who have been on a visit to England, reacfied Auckland to-day by the Rangitata, and will probably arrive back home to-morrow evening. Second-Lieutenants P. K. McLauchlan and K. It. S. Crarer, lst Battalion, Hawke's Bay Regiment, have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, according to a notice in the Gazette. Sir ErneBt Fisk, chairman of directors of Amalgamated Wirelesa (Australasia), Ltd., has been elected a vicepresident of the Institute of Radio En..giueers (America). He has beeu a member of the institute since 1915, and a Fellow since 1926. Mr. D. O. Smith, of Hastings, left this morning for Wellington, where he will meet L>r. Hucker, the American expert on mammitis, to discuss a curo on which Mr. Smith has been working for some years. The Rev. H. F. Ault, vicar of. St. Andrew's parish, Oxford, North Canterbury, has been appointed organising secretary of the Anglican Board of Missions, with headquarters at Christchurch. He will take up his new duties on May 1, 1938. Th# Rev. C. W. Haskell, who was awarded the King George VI. Coronation medal for services at Kgrachi, India, where he has been in charge of the Anglican mission station for the last six years, will arrive at Auckland by the Strathmore this week. He is accompanied by his wife and two children Mr Haskell was at Ashburton before he left for India. Mr. A. W. Hampton, who has been with the Lands and Survey " Depratment in Gisborne for the past 16 years, has received notice of his appointment on promotjon to the geological survey branch of the Department of Scientifio and Industrial Research, ' Wellington. He has arranged to leave Gisborne at the end of the month. Mr. E. E. Rixon, who, during the past nine years, has held office as treasurer and later as secretary of the Parkvale Golf Club, tendered his resignation at last night's annual meeting. Various members expressed appreciation of the valuable servico that Mr. Rixon ha'd given the club, and the committee presented him with a silver tea service as a token of that appreciation.
