Waipukurau School To Relay Opening Speeches on Nov. 24 From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The decision to inaugurate the wireiess installation at the Waipukurau School on November *24 with a programme of broadcast speeches was reached at a combined meeting of the, Waipukurau School Committee and tho Home and School League, the evening, over which Mr C. F. Haycock presided. Others present were: Mr A. M. 1'oung, and Mrs R. McLean, of tbe Home and School League, Mrs Corlett (teaching staff), Mr Parsons (headmaster), ah&. Messrs V. L. King, W. A. Chambers, T. Spencer, C. Cassidy, i?. Say.Iiss, of the school committee. Speeches will be relayed by teiejjhone from Wellington for the opening of the school radio installation. There would, said Mr" Haycock, most likely be a line from the Post Offiee to the school. This would be charged for, and the time available for speak ers would depend upon the Post Office. Mr Sayliss stressed the need for the line from Waipukurau to Wellington being "cleared of interruptions. Speak. ers nomiiiated to give addresses were: Tne chairman and secretary of the Ilawke 's Bay Education Board, Mr Cutkbertson, Mr and Mrs I. W. N. Mackie, Mrs H. M, Christie, Home and School League representatives, meinbers of the school teachig ' staff, 'Mr and Mrs Hawke, and Mr a,nd Mrs Perkins. The arrangements were left in the hands of the secretary and chairman. The opening is ,to be made a parents' -day, during which visitors will be entertained at afternOon tea arranged by the teaching staff. The special meeting was followed .by • the school committeo''s monthly meeting, which was postjponed from Novetn • ber 4- for lack of a quorunl. . Attendance on the whole at the school had been very good, except that a slight epidemic had broken out,' a while ago among the pupils. Mr Parsons also stated that the glare from the concrete at the sehcol grounds was hard on the pupils' eyes. It was decided to paint the -concrete. lt was also decided to write and thank Mr^Duncan for an address at thre school on commercial art, and. Mr A. F. Cook, for an address on bhlb-plaiit-ing. .. v ;
