Difficulty of Marketing N.Z. Sturmers LEVY FOR^ADVERTISING * Difficulty in marketing Sturmers on the ITnited Kingdom was mentioned by Mr H. Turner, London manager of the New Zealand Fruit Export Gontrol Board, in an address to the Hawke's Bay Fruitgrowers' Assoeiation in Hast--ing last evening. He added that at the forthcoming exhibition in Glasgow, a special effort would be made to popqlarise Sturmers in Seotland, and suggested a special levy upon growers of Sturmers for the purpose of using addltioual publicity. "Tho lack of jnterpst in Sturmers is hard to understapd, as I have no hesitation in saying that even now, and against the fresh arriyal of new peason's English, Canadian, and Ameriean apples, the New Zealand Sturmers still available are still the best-flavour-ed apple on the market and in rejnarkably good condition," said Mr Turner. "The margin between Sturmers and Doughertys is remarkable, particularly in view of the superiority in flayour of the former, and itjean only be assumed that the scarcity pf red yarieties at the time is responsible for the disparity." Seotland was a particularly poor market for Sturmers, the speaker added, as nfost people there preferred the red apples. Be thought that this must be splely du.e to.a matter pf cplour, and .stated that a special effort would be made to popularlse the variety in the north when a large Empire exhibit would be staged at the forthcpming ■es> hibition. A "apecial levy pn Sturmer growers for use in extra "bp.osting" pf the variety might assist the position.
