Car Rfolls 300 Feet Down Hill Slope OCCUPANTS ESCAPE

PORANGAHAU, Yesterday. When his car rolled sideways down a steep slope for 300 feet, Mr A. Halford, of Porangahau, and a passenger, suffered a narrow eseape from injury on Saturday evening. In a thick mist, the driver mistook a bend on the road and, after rolling for a considerable diatance down a steep incline, was rendered temporarily unconscious and was found to have eseaped with bruises only. Together with a passenger, Mr Halford, who is employed by Mr McCormick, in Porangahau, was driying back from Waipukurau "and, when about a mile from lJorangahau, came to a sharp bend on the hill road. There was a thick mist at the time," the thickwst that has been experienced in the district for sonfb years, and in negotiating the bend the driver went too close to the edge. The two side wheels of the car went over, and the vehicle rolled , sideways down the bank for a distance estimated at 300 feet, coming to rest finally on all four wheels upon a shecp track. Mr Halford was knoeked out when the car flfist Tolled over, but was unhurt, and the two occupants of ihe vehicle made their way up ihe bank and walked to Porangahau. They were given assistance by My and Mrs iV. Boach, and this morning were_able t» return home. The car, which was a fairly new oue, was badly damaged.. / ■ i
