"Hunter 's Morn, 'Top Hat and Begorrah were early leaders, the favourite leading the others oif and gbing into the back stretch ahead of 'Top Hat, Hunter 's Morn, Kapa Wiata. There was little change in^ positions as a result of racing across the top, where the leaders were almost on tefms. Jumping splendidly, Top Hat and Begorrak led t6 the home turn, but the pair entered the straight together. Wilful Lady, Daryill and Triplex were all badly left. Quimper was first to show out but soon lost the lead to Guiding Light, who led from Flame Queen, Oha, and Star Lad. Bounding the home bend, Quimper, Tommy Atkins and Wilful Lady all came round in a heap. Amoroso led into the straight from Flame Queen, Oha and Star Lad. The leaders staged a great race to the post, the favoixrite just managing to gain the deciskra by a short head from Amoroso, Flame Queen being almost level for third. Oha was a close fourth. Lady Furst did not get away with the field and the race resulted in a fiurther trium'pli for the Beau Pere stock. Beaupartjer was the best away from Screen Lord, but Ivar was soon into secojid place. The raee resolved itsolf into a contest between Ivar and Beaupartier, the favourito prevailing in a neck-and-neck contest by a neck. Screen Lord was third, tliree lengths back, and Merry Simon fourth. Time, 49 2-5secs. C. Plier, rider of Tommy Atkins( who fell in the bunch in the Trial Stakes, was removed to the Napier Hospital. Entering the straight Lindfiim was sighted first from Joe Louis, Perfect Lady, Le Touquet aixd Reasonable. Although he delayed the start, Slippery got away wexl to be an eaxly leader from Joviality, Bodyline, Mata Hari and Master Cyklon, After a short distance, Joviality took the lead from Mata Hari, Bodyline and Slippery. This order was maintained into the straight and to the post. The . favourite kept the measure of' Mata Hari to win by three-quarters of a length, Slippery, who finished the strongest of the rest, was third a length and a-half further back. Bodyline was fourth. Once they came into view Granvale was showing the way to Larwood, Bluffer, Clavercourt and Fossieker. At the end of three furlongs Marsyas had run up in behind Granvale, from Bluffer, Clavercourt, Fossieker and Fundy Bay. Racing across the top, Wananga and Mahutai got into fourth and fifth positions, Felicitation being still well back. There was no change in the leaders as they turned xnto the straight and in the run to the post, Granvale ran clear and appeared to have the race well in hand when Felicitation came through with a brilliant overpowering run to get Granvale in the last strike on the line, winning by a nose in the xnost surpr sing iinish of the day. Gironde was third two lengths i away with Marsyas fourth, Time, 1,41.
