Sudanese soldiers, led by a British District Commissioner, passing through swamps in the Bor district on their way to rescue Brigadier-General A. C. Lewin and' his wife, who were marooned on an island in an immense swamp in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. Although they had been sighted by aeroplanes searching for them and supplies of food dropped by means of parachutes, the "flying" general and his wife were in an exhausted condition when the search party reached them on October 10.
