Tenni* Courts Proposed For Domain

Pxoposals to.make tennis courts upon the Havelock -. North domain, were placed before the Havelock North Town Board last evening by a deputation from the Havelock North Tennis Club, After the deputation had pointed out that the club's aetivities had been hampered from lack of space, a subcommittee was set up to confer upoii the matter with the elub and report to the board. . The chairman, Mr H. R. von Dadelszen, presided over Messrs A. Christie, J. J. Nimon, A. Toop, M. R. Greenwood and E. C. Stratton. The construction of a i'ootpath on a seetion of Middle road and the erection of a street- lamp, was asked for in a petition presented- to the hoard. The ohairman^ stating that it would cost £50 to form a footpath, recalled that a footpath had heen built on' the other side of the xoad some time ago, and had' been so little used that it had become overgrown. It was decided to reply that the proposal could not be considered this year as the estimates had already heen prepared, but that the question would be considered next year. The lighting 'matter was being considered. The town clcrk, Mr W. H, Anderson, reported as follows: — Roads: T© Aute and Joll roads havo been metalled; Campbell road has been patehed and metalled at its intersections; St. Hill's lane has been patehed; and the Lower To Mata road intersection has heen built up. A number of new sewer and water connection crossings on sealed roads are now receiving attention. » Grading has been carried oufc on all. macadam roads, A culvert has been placed acj-oss tho main entrance to Mrs White 's proherty on Campbell road, and watertables have been cleaned on that road and also on Joll xoad. Drainage: The sauitary inspcctor has made three new. connections to the system and that officer reports that the whole system i'3 operating satisfactorily Water supply; Pumped 3,304,000 gallons; consumed 3,296.000 gajjons; surplus 8,000 galldns. Two new connections were made to the supply. Domain; Arrangements are being made to place 800 sheep on the field For short periods to lteep the grass down. The plantation of ornamental trees is still doing well. Cycling on footpaths: A-s traffie inspoetor, I am paying particular attention to this. A number of names have been taken and future offenders will bo prosecuted. ' '
