Good FieWs for Spring i Meeting PROSPECTS REVIEWED
m
Venr fair acceptances have been received for the spring meeting of the Napier Bark Racing Clubt wfiieh. will be held on the Greenmeadows xacecourse to-morrow. The course is. in excellent condition and. with continued fine summer-like weather, the .track will be fast while a full attendance of patrons should be assured. The single pool beitting system will be in operation. Following is a review of the flelds engaged:— 12.45: GREENMEADOWS HACK HURDLES. The field for the opening event includes three, Hunter 's Mora, Begorrah and! Rapa Waiata, from H. S. Greene's stable, but, racing in jdifferent ownershipSj, they will not be bracketed. Hunter 's Mora is not a finished jumper and rarely takes two htardles alike. Still at times he jumps brilliantly and, with his pace^ he will be one the public will enquire after. Begorrah may do better now with his nsual pilot, A. E. Lord, on top. Rapa Waiata gives promise of being useful. Mahala won a double at Gisborne from rather poor fields. Since then this full sisfer to Mata Hari will no doubt have improved. Top Hat won so well at Hastings that he will not this timo be the outsider. Gletrac is a, possibility, while Bothwell, if racing as well as when .down here last Jiune, will have to b.e given a chance. The betting publio may; .f avour TOP HAT, HUNTER 'S MORN and BEGORRAH. 1,25: TRIAL STAKES. JFor horses that have not at time of starting won a yace. Oha xaced fairly well at Hastings, and now, ovex a furlong less, will have to be xeckoned .witn. Tonimy Atkins's fozm is only too well exppsed. in-ail:h!is -iaceS Anioroso has shown speed and now over five furlongs should go -very plose to collecting a iividend, Triplex is only going so-so. Wilful Lady at one time ha.d poor barrier manners, but of latq has shown an improyement in this xespect, ,so has a- xpuglj chance. Taparau has been sore more or less fox some time bht »he 4s a possibility. despite tbe interruptions in her preparation. Enfin might aurprise, the . same being applicable ta. Quimper. Red jCqekade went woll yestexday morning, but looks a Jittle buHy as yet. Guiding Ingfii has little to jecpjnmend her. DaryilL will not be ovex-xushed at the ' ticket-sellers' .windows, liame Queen is a poor beginne'iy but- has only to be fortuuate in getting away well to be one of the. hard ones to beat. Star Lad had had no luck in the running when he finished third last Sa,turday, SO his toirn'.does not appear very f'ar disfant. Favouritism may be dis-putea,by*Sl?AJt-ii^;''iM^ .QUEEN and AMOROSO, 2.5: JUyENIEE HANDICAE. Beaupartier, by-BeSu Pere from the §hief Rulfy April Fpol^ ha| not one $ grieat Tdeal' of" gailbpigg,' but wbat he bas strongiy suggests that, like other geti of his eire, te knows how to galldp. Ivar, another Beau Pere, has fuliy recovered from his cold. He yvan his heat at the last parade held on the Hastings xacecourse. \Lady Purst, Gold Ghafe, Renascon and Gardu have not yefc-Taced. Screen lord has disappointed twice already, but should be all the better for the experience gained and has only to xace up to track form to be very hard to beat. Merry Simon should go better- than at Hastings, while Laughing Song nieeds to show further improvement before being xeeommended. Something of a-toss-up. What will carry the most- investments, BEAUPARTIER, iyAR fir SCREEN LORD?
2.45: PARK STAKES HANDICAP. Royal Minstrel won well at Hastings, even if only by half a length, and being a horse of substance should carry 9st. without difficulfy, Sohp now uieets the tqp-weight on 91bs. better terms and, as he has improved with that jace, will xnake it interesting, more eepecially as he always races weli on the Greenmeadows track. Pladie has been galloping well in private, but on the day disappoints. On his track gallops Limbohm has only a rough chance of success, but he was never one, even when in his prime, to set the training tracks alight. Legatee xaced poorly at Gisborne, but anqther Gisborpite in Gay Hunter xeads well on the 7«7. mark, Tres Sec was not equal to a place in the amateur riders ' race last Saturday. Buster Brown and Umpire are two lightweight possibiiiti.es-' Host money may be invested on SOHO, ROYAL MINSTREL, and GAY HUNTER. 3.25s AHURIRI HACK HANDICAP. Gasman ran solidly last- Saturday when- he' won' the five and a-half furlongs event and, benefited by that race, will' - -again be difiicult to. head ofE, despite. his 9.3. Lin.dram has shown spee.d and is sure of good- ' support. R'eaisonable was all out to win a juaiden last . week-end but, drawing No. 17 at the barrier, did not have an easy tusk. Nereus proved himself a fair hack last season but now may want a race. Money Raid has racing' condition but in being asked to give 21bs. to Screen Star is not -well treated, as the latter at the t'ail end of last season gave Money Raid 21bs. and a beating at Napier Park. Perfect Lady won at Gisborne, . but Joe Louis appears to have gone'off eolour. Le Touquet- has a fair chance "but Parxy will need to do a little better than he has. The investments here may be fairly well distributed with most maybe on LINDliUM, GASMAN and SCREEN STAR. '4.?: FLYING HANDICAP* I ( Joviality xan well enough at .'.Wel-
lington to suggest that, back to a lower grade, he should be one of the best backe.d, Padishah, oyer six furlongs, is not a great betting propositlon, Master Cyklon won' all his races last aeason over middle distances, so six iurlongs may be too short for him, too. However, he has a chance all the same. Mata Hari woa at Gisborne after disappointing the first day there as well as at the Hawke's Bay spring meeting — she can, but not always will she with the colours up. Slippery ran well enough at Hastings not to be ignored altogether. Boinfight is another that can do it cn the training track but is seldom caught in the same mood when the money is on. Bodyline might surprise, but Mercian Prince never impressed aa a sprinter. The favoUrite may come from JOVIALITY, MATA HARI and MASTER CYKLON. 4.45: COUNTY HACK HANDICAP. This mile event hals drawn the largest field of the day. Fossicker should "run out a mile, but may require a little more racing before doing so. Felicitatipn was finishing strongly in second place at Hastings last week, so enters calculations, thongh it- is her first attempt over a mile. Granvale is, 1 think, at his best distance, but he is a little "in and out." Lacquer is one that should take a 'promiiient part in the finish. Bluffer is an interesting acceptor, but in her few races this season has not fulfilled the promise she gavq last autumn. Gironde is not w.orking very well, but the last day at Trentham over a mile he ran a fair, race. Marsyas is having his first try at a middle distanCe, but is still a possibility. Hamarin is woll overdue, while Tullamore is expected to make a bold showing. Agog has a few minor placings to his cxedit o^er a mile, so may Bur»ise. Of the other light-weights Mahutai reads best, as he is on the improve and his final gallop was attractive. Recovery may be looked for from FELICITATION, GRANVALE' and LACQUER. CARD FOR TO-MORROW
