Farmers' Union Branches Plan To "Get Together '

WAIPUKURAU. Last Night. Seven field-days or lectures during the autumn and winter montbs, followed by social evenings, form part of a plan to increase the usefulness of the Farmers' Union'a in Central Hawke's Bay, arranged by a meeting of branch delegates in the Waipukurau Oddfellows' Hall. The Iack of enthusiasm evident in some quarters and the need for more suitable lectures were stressed, the f oi* lowing subjects being voted as desirable for lectures: Hairiness in wool, dried grass and the methods of working, and the durability. and characteristics of timber. The following resolution was carried: ' ' That the Central Hawke 's Bay branches of the Farmers' Union ar range seven field-days or lectures during tho autumn and winter inonths, and that branches be responsible for their own field-days or lectures, and that this meeting suggests that the holding of social evenings at the termination of such days should be considered." The following programme was tentatively drawn up: February 1938, Waipukurau; March, Hatuma; April, Porangahau; May, Omakere; june, Tikokino; July, Ongaonga; and October, Takapau. Those present were: Messrs C. R. Edgecombe (provineial executive), L. M. Monckton (Waipukurau branch), A. D. Kittow and T. G. Price (Omakere), D. Eddy and G. Limbrick (Tikokino), N. Tilley and N. Waldin (Takapau), H. P. Hole and R. Edgecombe (Hatuma), F. A. Jackson and J. R. Byrne (Porangahau), and the seeretary of the Waipukurau branch, Mr C. R. Watson. Mr C. R. Edgecombe was elected to the chair. Messrs 0. R. Edgecombe, Monckton and Watson were appointed a sub-com-mittee, and the fixing of the programme will be left in their hands. The branches will pay proportionately the costs incurred by the combined meetings. ■■ - - -
