AUSTRALIAN SENATE

Twenty Seats are HeId by Goyernment i . (Received 12, 2.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 12. Now it appears certain that the Labour Party has won 16 of 19 Senate vacancies. Senator G. Brown was raelected for Queensland and the raelection of his two colleagues is considered beyond doubt. With seventeen Senators who did not retire the Government will have a following of 20 in the new Senate. On completion of the count in New South Wales the fourth Labour candidate, Mr. W. Ashley, was elected. Labour also won tho two remaining vacancies in Western Australia, Mr. J. l'Vaser and Mr. R. Clothier . beiug elected. Senator Pearce and Senator Lynch, President of the Senate, were defeated. There are 36 seats in the Senate.
