Protected Areas and Sanctuaries Considering that the clausq was ambiguous, and that it wanted clarifying, tho executive of the Hawke's Bay Accliraaiisation Society, at its meeting last evening, decided to refer back to the council the section of the report of the North Island Council 's meeting which dealt with the -gazetting of protected areas, in addition to sanctuaries. Members considered that there was no clear indication as to what tho aetual difference was between a sanetuary and a protected area,' many expressing the opinion that the restrictions ia both cases appeared to be the same. The presi'dent, Mr J. H. Edmondson. presided. ' One request from Auckland and one from Morrinsville^ eaeh for a pair of green pheasants, were considered, ^.and, on Mr T, V, Morrin's motion, itewas decided to Teply that the society had none for sale, but that it would be prepared to let each of the applicantp have a setting of fifteen eggs at £1 1/*. A breeder at Napier South wrote asking for four birds of each of four varieties the society is now breefiing. 11 was agreed, in a general ^discussion, that toeal breeders, breeding for liberation could' be given birds or settings of eggs', but it was also decided that no-one other than members of the society should be given them. Tbe- seeretary was instructed to inforjn the applicant that the sociey would be prepared to give him a setting of fifteen eggs, repre--sem'mg the four varieties, provided he became a member.
