A eomplete' survey of ' sporting facilities offering in New Zealand, particularly playing;grounds,- ls to be maoe by the proposed Council - of Sport to be institute'd by 'the Government. " There is need for sports -bodies to go can'ny on . proposals to buy land for their activities, ' ' stated the Minister of ' Internal 'Affairs, the, Hon. W. E. Uaxry, to-day. Tlie .Minister .said that from oue or two sports bodies ih eities/ including Auckland, had come, communications mentioning that what wsrs needed to dev'elop their sport - was playing-areas of their own ~and that some bodies had particular .areas under offer. . When Parliament had passed the Physical Welfai'e and, Recreation Bill, one of the^fiiut of many stejjs to be taken by the council to' be appointed w.ould be the. making of a' cOmplete survey of the facilities for sport and recreation existing in New. Zealand. to-day. They wanted to fuid out what was uecessary or would be require'd in future to carry out the aims and proposals of the leglslation. The adeqiuaey or inadequacy of playing-grounds would. he the chief matter. to be investigated. and as a result he hoped the way would be paved for the settlement of one of the greatest difficulties confronting sports organisations. "It will be seen, " Mr Parry added, 1 ' tha,t clubs would be still further complicating ' the position the council will be dealing with by their buying areas
