Trawler to Operate Near * New Zealand

| SYDNEY, November 9. The tTawler Alfie Cam is to fish in waters near New Zealand i'or the Sydmey market. The demand in Sydney for fish is outgrowing the suj.ply. New Zealand imports have incxeased more than threetbld in the last few years. Cam and Sons, Pty., Ltd., has decided to send the trawler to fish in New Zealand waters about once a month.
Provided that New Zealand territorial waters are not invaded, there is nothing to prevent the Allie Cam or any other fishing vessel from trawling on the eastern side of the Tasman Sea. This was made ciear by Mr A. E. Hef- ; ford, Chief Iiispector of New Zealand Fisheries, when invited to comment on a message from Sydney, stating that the Alfie Cam was to trawi near New Zealand for the Sydney market. * Mr Hefford said that a visit had previouslv bcen paid by the Alfie Cam, presumably to investigate the possibilities for trawling on the New Zealand side of the Tasman. On that occasiou the skipper had appeared genuinely anxious not to poach, and no doubt during ihe coming trip the Alfie Cam would operate outside the three-milfe limit, where the waters were free to whoever cared to fish.
