— r Coynties Adopt FIvc-Day Week. "I think it is the pro-per thing for us to fall into line," said the chairman, Mr C Pattison, when the Patangata County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday, decided to give its office staff a five-day w,eek. The clerk, J, W. Klliott, made inquiries as to what county couucils cilosed their offices on Saturdays. He found that 53 of 61 North Xslaiid couucils whieh hpd replied to his inquiry observed the five-day weok. The Waipukurau County Council acUpted it at its last meeting, and the Waipawa County Council office wqrked five Jays a week. It was decided that th© office should observe the liours of 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondaya to Fridays, and be closed on Saturdays. Natlonal Party. A meeting oi the supporters of the New Zealand National Party of the Kaiwaka and Tutira distficts fras held at tbe Tutira Hall. There was a good attendance of settlers from these two distrirts, who were addressed by the electorate chairman, Mr. F, P. Kelly, and the organising secretary, Mr. G. E. G. Hogers. It was resolved to form a branch of the party, and a strong interim committee was elected. Saving of £100. The tender of Mr. T. Macken of £699 8/2. for two miles of formation on the Mangatarata-Long Range road Was accepted by the Patangata County Council at its monthly meeting. The engineer, Mr, J. C. McLauchlan stated that the actual cost would be £986 3/9 which would be about £100 leSs tban the estimated cost of £1,001. porangahau Beach Road. Expenditure on the Porangahau beach road up to an amount of £30 was authorised by the Patangata County Council at its monthly meeting. The. engineer, Mr. J. C. McLauahlan, stated that it was proposed to clear thp road along the road reserve of rushes and level it and to patch the existing road where necessary. The road required extending to givo access to new seo» tions beyond the existing cottages. Indoor Bowls Fund. The fund for providing indoor bowls at the Pukeora Banatorium now totals £10 19/-. Further donations to make the total required (£17 10/-) will be cbankfully reeeived on behalf of the appeal of Mr, J. H. Hindman, c/o Wine and Spirit Oo., Waipukurau.

Omakere Entertainment. The ' Guy Fawkes celebrations at Omakere took the form of a froe night1* entertainment at the Omakere Hall arranged by the Coast residents. A dance was held1, with bonfite and fireworks as aii interlude. A dainty supper was provided and dancing was continued until 3 a.m. Mr. Lew Munro's orchestra, snpported by several local musicians, who played the extras, supplied the mqsic for the dancing. The hall was prettily decorated with greenery, streamers and balloons. It was gratifying to see such a large and representative crowd from the Coast, Waipawa and Waipukurau gather at tbe hall, thus showing apiireciation of the efforts of tbe Coast people to give an enjoyable evening. A donation to the Omakere school funds waa made by th® dance organisers.

Ormondviile Tennis. At a meeting of the Ormondville Tennis Club committee, Mr. C. R. Williams preside.d over a good attendance. The Hawke's Bay Tennis Association requested the club to appoint a delegate to represent it at association meetings, whereupou Mr. G. W. Stewart was reappointed to the position. A challenge was reeeived • from the Russel Park Club, Waipukurau, to play a match against the. Ormondville Club as soon as can be arranged. There was a discussion upon the re-layihg of the hard court, a sum of £20 being yoted towards the cost in concrete. Dannevirke Golf. The senior championship of the Dannevirke Ladies' Golf Club was played between Mrs. Eric Knight and Mrs. Hape, Mrs. Knight being the winner, 3 up and 1 to play. The junior championship was played last week between Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Hulstofi, Mrs. Garner being the winner by the nar» row margin of 2 and 1.
