Mr. A. Marshall, of Puketapu, is visiting Christchurch. Mr. D. McCorkindale, accountant in the Napier Office of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., is spending part of hi3 holiday leave at Taupo. Mr. Norton Francis, Christchurch, has been re-appointed a vice-president of the Federated Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire. Mr- Nelson Calder, of the New Plymouth Magistrate 's Court staff, has received notice of his transfer to Napier. Sir Jamog Steel-Maitland, managing director of Isteg Steel Products (N.Z.) Ltd., returned by the Awatea yesterday from a business visit to Sydney. Mr W. J. Greig, stationmaster in charge of the Picton section of railway, has received notice of transfer on promotion to the post of goods agent at Auckland. ! Mr and Mrs Alan Grant have returned- to Hastings from holidaying in the Rotorua district. Mr. Grant has now completely recovered from his recent indisposition. Mr Arthur Douglass, principal of |he New Zealand Friends' School, and Mra Douglass have returned to Wanganui from a five months ' tour abroad during wliich they visited the United States and England. Mr. E. H. Beamish of Whanawhana lef t. this morning for Wellington where he will confer with the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, regarding a subsidy for iinproyement works to the Ohiwa stream, The Very Rev. Father Hurley, of St. Mary's, Boulcott street, Provincial of the Marist Fathers, returned to Wellington by the Awatea yesterday. He attended the laying of the foundationstone of the seminary for Marist Fathers at Parramatta. Mr G. Birnie, postmaster at' Helensville, and formerly a member of the staff at the Hastings Post Office, accompanied by Mrs Birnie, is on a holiday visit to Hastings. Mr and Mrs Birnie are the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Mathews, of "Westcourt Flats," Nelson street. Having been commodore commanding the New Zealand Station since April, 1935, Rear-Admiral Drummond is due to relinquish his duties next April, and return to England. The name of his successor is not yet known in New Zealand, but it will probably be announced from London within the next few weeks. The term of Kear- Admiral Drummond 's appointment was three years. Mr. N. S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, who has been in the United Kingdom during the last few months, left on Wednesday last for New Zealand via Canada and the United States, where he will visit the company 's organisations. Mr. Falla .will arrive at Auckland in the Niagara on December 13. Dr. P. R. McMahon, late pf- Massey College and now of Leeds University, has gained further distinction in connection with his research work, having been advised by a long-established giuld, tho Worshipful Company of Woolmen of the City of London, to attend a function presidcd over by the Lord Mayor of London to receive a silver medal awarded for the best thesis upon a recognised field of ,onquiry, having reforence to wool, wool growing, the influenco of processing on wool and the effect of light on wooL Dr. McMahon, who recently graduated Ph.D. at Leeds University, is continuing his research work at that institution.
