BLONDES' APPEAL

■ A SCIENTIFIC REASON The reason why "gentlemen prefer blondes" is exophthalmic goitre. The eminent British physician and menfal and nerve specialist, Sir James Crichton-Browne, discusses the subject in a new hook. He expresses the opinion that "exophthalmic goitre is undoubtedly much more common in blondes than in brunettes. "It tends, in its incipient stage, to produce a type of woman "\yho, is clever, volatile, hvely and temperamental, with large lustrous eyes, and is distinctly attractive t6 the other sex." A doctor, when interviewed on this opinion, quoted figures to show the scarcity of ophthalmic goitre, and the tiny percentage of women suffering from it.
