WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Central Hawke's Bay Eleetric Power Board was held to-day. Present: Messrs A. C. Russell (chairman), W. H. Rathbone, A. C. Holms, R. A. Eraser, W. A. Chambers, C. Pattison, J. -A. Kerr and M. Ryan.- Messrs G. E. Fowler (secretarymanager) and G. L. Beer (inspeetorengineer) were also in . attendance. An. apology for absence was received from Mr E. J.- Witherow. An application from the Waipukurau Borough Council for the mstallation of a street light outside the theatre entrance was approved. The Waipukurau County wrote asking the board to increase its subsidy for river proteetion work. to £7. — Agreed to. The board approved of the suggestion of engaging a lady demonstrator for a weelc or ten days'to demonstiate the use of electric applianees in the homo. Tfie secretary-manager reportod -that there was need for" a vehicle to tran»port the man who was doing tl e earthtesting work, which would take at least four months to complete. He suggestee that the board consider purchasmg h second-hand truck for the purpoSe — Anthority was given to purchase one up to a iimit of £100. Mr Ryan asked the secretary-manag-dr if it was correct that one settler on the Tamumu line was being allowed to come on to the line without a guarantee. The engineer-inspector said that the settler referred to had given a guarantee. Mr Longley pointed out that it was the policy of the board to require a quarantee in proportion under these circumstances. Mr Holms drew attention to the fact that the last notice of a "shut-ddwn" was not advertised until the Saturday before, which in his opinion was not sufileiert notice for the convenience of the public The secretary-manager explained that the advertisement had appeared in the local papers on the Friday night and In tho i.rovincial papers on the Saturday,' as well as being announced over the air on the same day. The reason for the late advice was that the member of the- Public Works staff whose duty it was to advise the board, had been taken ill. Mt Ryan expressed regret that it had been found impossible to prepare the report on sparsely populated areas in time for to-day 's meeting, as he felt yalm'iblc time. ^ wus. perhapg. being wasted while the Government was m a liber&l spending mood. The secretary-man.ager pointed ouj: that the Power Boards' Association had the matter in hand. Mr Ryan explained that he did not wish to cqmplain unduly, but he did want to be able to give some informatioi to the people in his district who were waxting for power..
